Stephen Lawrence Scholarship: The Football Foundation to finance the education scheme

Foundation Foundation should provide financial support for an educational scheme established on behalf of Stephen Lawrence, the teenager murdered in a racist attack in 1993.

The English football charity – which is supported by financing from the Football Association (FA), Premier League and Government – will provide career development opportunities for the Stephen Lawrence scholarship.

The scheme, together with the University of Greenwich, will prioritize black students of low socioeconomic origin, and those who are removed or experienced, seeking to complete a leading architecture course from September.

Lawrence was an avid football fan and an aspiring architect before his murder in southern London 32 years ago.

The initiative, facilitated by Charlton’s vice president and former Chelsea defender Paul Elliott, hopes to help students get a job in roles related to architecture in English football, such as stadium design.

“This partnership is a powerful example of what can be achieved when shared values and vision come together,” said Elliott.

“It was a personal honor to help gather these organizations on behalf of Stephen Lawrence – uniting their passion for football with our collective commitment to create inspiring spaces and opportunities for life change to young people.

“Through Stephen Lawrence’s scholarship, we not only honor your legacy, but also actively enabling a new generation.”

Baroness Lawrence, Stephen’s mother, added: “The establishment of this scholarship on behalf of Stephen marks a significant continuation of her legacy, offering opportunities for the next generation and reinforcing the vital role that education and sport can play in transformative communities.”
