England vs. Western Indies: Liam Dawson shows the hosts of what they were losing

Meanwhile, Dawson admits that he tries not to do anything “flash”.

While Shoaib Bashir and Tom Hartley have their high release points and Rehan Ahmed his Googly, Dawson is a setback – the magician of the old school that can still deceive it with both hands and a piece of cards, without the need for saws, fire and flashing lights.

On Chester-le Street, he surpassed the Western Indies with the discreet routine of tricks.

After granting only four first place races, Dawson attacked in his second.

With an extra loop, he fell 10 mph of his previous delivery and found the clearest curve of the match. Johnson Charles attacked his direction to get stuck and perplexed.

From there, after two openings that cost only seven, Dawson rested and the West Indies rebuilt.

Dawson returned, the dangerous Sherfane Rutherford on strike, and the spinner handed it to Brook when the left-handed hit the long-on.

If the credit for this would be generous, Dawson’s next scalp – two balls later – came with another drop in the pace and crucially a wider line.

Outside the Stump Roston Chase, he gave Ben Duckett another capture on Deep to make England huge favorites once again.

While the limits flowed on the other side – younger men Jacob Bethell, Will Jacks and Matthew Potts among the punished – Dawson was not hit by the rope to fourth place.

The dangerous Rovman Powell hit him for four twice, but a ball after Dawson changed again.

Faster and faster he was, Powell was played and Dawson had his best international numbers in the T20.

Its 4-20 was also the best of a left-wing-arm driver for England in shape. Key could hardly have asked for more.

The background for England’s victory is the T20 World Cup that appears next year. They have only 12 matches in this format before traveling to India and Sri Lanka, where spin is expected to be crucial.

“This didn’t even get into my thoughts,” Dawson said when asked if he was looking to make this World Cup team.

“I’m happy to be back involved in this, make one game at a time and enjoy every time I play.”

Dawson was an unused member when England won the 50 -year -old World Cup in 2019.

Six years later, it may finally be what they need.
