England captain Harry Kane says his team “escaped” in the 1-0 win against Andorra in a performance that “was not good enough.”
In a disappointing exhibition against a 173rd place team in the world, England won the courtesy of a lonely Kane goal after 50 minutes in Barcelona.
England was booed by some of its fans at break and full time, while manager Thomas Tuchel said his team “had no seriousness and urgency in a World Cup round.”
“It was not our greatest performance,” said Kane, whose goal took his record to 72 to England.
“I don’t think a lot of people will remember, for sure, but there are three points in the bag.
“But yes, we certainly know that we can play better in every respect, with and without the ball.
“Now, now it’s for us to analyze it, look back and try to learn from it, because in terms of conditions it will be very similar to next summer – dry tone, hot, damp climate.”
He added: “That [the goal] It was probably our best play and we just didn’t have enough, both with races and quality – many half -overloaded balls, and that kind of killed our impulse, especially there in the second half. “
The 2026 World Cup will be held throughout Canada, Mexico and the United States.
England beat Latvia and Albania in the first two World Cup qualifiers in March before the victory against Andorra.
They are Top of the K GroupWith Albania in second place in four points, Latonia in third with three points after two games, Serbia fourth with a point of a game and Andorra Bottom.
Kane added: “We were just missing quality [against Andorra]It seemed a little physically and mentally tired, and yes, we got out of it because we are a good team and they had some half chances that we were not punished. But ultimately it was not good enough. “
England’s next game is a friendly against Senegal in the city of Nottingham Forest on Tuesday (19:45 BST).
