Ellie Roebuck: Former City City goalkeeper by recovering from stroke and joining Barcelona

Roebuck did not play Manchester City again after his stroke, but she managed to complete her dream to Barcelona in the summer.

However, she says the way her final season was held in a club where she made more than 100 appearances made her confidence “diminished”.

“I just felt like maybe my relationship with the manager [Gareth Taylor] It was fractured.

“I don’t know if it was me, perhaps not listening to clear communication or the fact that there was no clear communication.

“I lowered my head and tried to work every day, but I think it was a poorly managed situation. I was always professional. I felt that respect was not returned in the same sense.”

Roebuck says that although she was “devastated” to leave City, he made her join Barcelona, who won three of the last four Champions League titles, a very easy decision.

However, she admits that her first training session with the club after six months was much harder than she predicted.

“After getting back from having a brain injury and then saying that you need to dive to someone’s feet, it’s not the most beautiful. But I had to go through it.

“Barcelona showed confidence in me and for me, this was more important than anyone saying that you can play an initial role. It’s the fact that they showed confidence in me, and they wanted me here and want to improve me.

“The girls are amazing. The three main candidates for Ballon d’Or are all in this locker room and it was a shock as everyone is, it’s crazy to me. I was never part of a team other than the England team like that.

“So, for me, it’s a perfect fit and I like to enter every day.”

Now 25, Roebuck did it Debut in Barça in December in a 4-1 win over Real Betis, 303 days after diagnosis and more than 18 months since its last appearance.

“Everyone hoped I was nervous, but I felt good the moment I went there. This is the kind of mantra I’m enjoying, every time I have this opportunity, I just want to enjoy it.”
