This marks the first trophy of the international career of Portugal manager, Roberto Martinez, after gaining nothing with The so -called Belgium Gold Generation.
Wigan’s 2013 FA CUP was your last piece of cutlery – so could the League of Nations save your job?
Balague said: “The rumor [that he will be sacked] came from the federation of Portugal. A new president who did not choose Roberto Martinez.
“We are reading the new president would like Jorge Jesus or José Mourinho to be the next manager, but how can you get rid of Roberto Martinez?”
Martinez assumed the position of Chief of Portugal in January 2023, after the last World Cup, and is hired until next summer to cover the 2026 World Cup.
“He made Ronaldo a regular top scorer again,” Balague continued. “Ronaldo has a better percentage of goals per game than with any other manager.
“Basically, it just killed any plan to get rid of it. How can they get rid of it?”
Although the League of Nations is not the largest tournament in the world, it is one of the only three European trophy countries, excluding other smaller competitions that you can only get by winning another trophy.
Carney added: “It was more with the National Selection of Belgium, going from that gold generation and going to this – what will be different?
“There is something special about him.
“The players and Ronaldo reacted positively to him.
“He will be tried after that at the World Cup. It would be terrible if he were replaced.”
