New Zealander Ryan Fox beat American Sam Burns in a fourth play-off hole to claim a dramatic victory in Canadian Open.
Fox sank a bird in the 18th hole in his fourth round to mark a play-off against Burns, which had produced a stunning round of eight below the 62 pair on TPC Toronto, in the Osprey Valley.
Burns reached nine birds and a bug -papate to take over the club’s lead and it seemed to be enough for victory until Fox’s heroics in the last hole in their 66 -year -old round.
Paris was the sudden play-off hole and, after Fox went through the hole with his fourth kick and had to be content with a pair, Burns did not capitalize as he lost a hook shot to win the first time.
In the next attempt, Fox almost entered the water with his second shot before both again could not be separated when they paired.
The location of the hole was changed to its third attempt, but the pair again hid before going for the fourth time.
This time, Fox produced a second brilliant shot, and after Burns took five, he made a bird to win a second PGA Tour title on the back of his first triumph at Last month’s Myrtle Beach Classic.
“It was very difficult,” said Fox. “I was very lucky to make this shot in regulation [at the 18th]. Just entered.
“I didn’t get some great photos on the play-off and Sam left me there for the first time.
“It’s good to get a good hit the fourth time – this is probably the best photo I ever ended in my life. It’s good to do so in these circumstances.”
David Skinns of England produced a strong display when he hit a 67 to finish 13 under the Toronto TPC in the Osrery Valley.
Ireland’s Shane Lowry started strongly with an eagle and three birds to soon move to the lead in 15, before his challenge disappears.
He hit the ninth, 16th and 17th holes, while reached a bird in the 15th to rotate in 67, when he ended at 13 less.
