JAI OPETAIA FOR CLAUDIO SCECA IN THE FIFTH ROUND TO KEEP THE CRUISERWEIGHT IBF TITLE


Jai Opetaia has produced a fifth round stop to win Claudio Stce and keep his World Cruiserweight titles from IBF and Ring Magazine.

The Australian dominated the fight on the gold coast and got a firm uppercut in the third round before connecting with some harmful combinations.

Opetaia, 29, then with the Italian floor Squeo in the fourth round with a punitive shot to the body.

The victory was delivered in the next round, after a fierce hook on the right to the forced jaw Squeo to cling to and kneel, while the house’s favorite extended his unbeaten race to 28 fights.

After the fight, Opetaia once again expressed his desire for a unification struggle with Mexico’s WBO and WBA Cruiserweight champion Gilberto Ramirez.

“We did what we had to do,” said Opetaia.

“I am chasing this unification struggle and is frustrating.

“Gilberto Ramirez – Next fight, let’s do that. I’m chasing the belts. The fight is easy to do. Let’s do that.”

Meanwhile, together in Japan Nakatani beat compatriot Ryosuke Nishida, who retired with an eye injury to Tokyo, to add the IBF rooster weight title to his WBC belt.

Nakatani remains the number one fighter of the division after firing several punches toward Nishida’s right eye, which took an inspection from the ring doctor after the sixth round.

The victory for the three pesos world champion extends his unbeaten record to 31 wins, including 24 knockouts.

Another Japanese rival, Naya Inoue, was watching in the stands and could be in line for a highly expected meeting with the 27 -year -old next year.

A fight between Nakatani and the unbeaten Inoue, which has 27 knockouts in 30 wins, would be the biggest fight in the history of Japanese boxing.
