Physical Education: Report shows “worrying decline” in high school physical education classes


Although PE is a mandatory subject in schools, the recommended two -hour per week is not applied.

Ali Oliver, YST’s chief executive, said: “Our children are moving less, feeling more unhappy and losing access to PE transforming power, contributing to stagnant levels of physical activity.

“Autumn at high school time is unfortunately an exacerbation of a long -term trend and should be an alert to society, from policy to schools and parents.

“Unless we take steps to reverse these harmful trends and increase activity levels to improve good -to -be, we risk failing in a generation.”

In a statement, the government said: “These numbers highlight the terrible heritage of the government, but we are determined to break barriers to access to physical and school sports for young people through our change plan, helping to improve their good and physical and physical.

“We are working throughout the government and with our partners, including Youth Sport Trust and Sport England to increase participation and we have already invested 100 million pounds to update sports facilities and launch a program to improve sports access for students with special education needs and deficiencies.

“Our continuous curriculum and evaluation review seeks to provide a broader curriculum, so that children do not lose issues, including physical education and sport.”
